Nosara is located on the Pacific side in the Guanacaste region on the Nicoya Pennisula of Costa Rica. It is situated at the mouth of the Nosara and Montana rivers. It is home to a very diverse international community.


Renowned for it’s many excellent restaurants, you can dine on pizza at a local spot in Esparanza or eat local Costa Rican dishes at Rosies, Rancho Tico & Freddies. For international fare there is the Cafe Paris and Bakery, or Dolce Vita and Giordino Tropicale for Italian. Casa Romantica is a favorite Swiss-owned hotel and restaurant that has seafood and local meats cooked to perfection. Marlin Bills has typical American food with an awesome view from the elevated dining area. Gilded Iguana is a great mix of fresh seafood and choice meat dishes along with a great friendly atmosphere. Other places to eat are Kaya Sol, Casa Tucan, Harmony Hotel, (has a great vegetarian menu), and Lagarta lodge, another elevated property with fabulous ocean views allowing for awesome sunsets at dinner.

Nosara Biological Reserve

Founded in the early 1960’s, the Nosara Civic Association American Project is the oldest expatriate community in Costa Rica. It is the the guardian of the parkland. Surrounded by 125 acres of Nosara Biological Reserve, the area has a large variety of active wildlife.


The inland town of Nosara is a small pueblo that has an airport with daily flights on Sansa and Nature Air directly from San Jose and Liberia. The Super Nosara grocery store , in the pueblo, provides all groceries you’ll need while visiting the area. The library is also located in the pueblo as well as the public school and soccer field. At the fruitateria you can buy local fresh produce delivered three times per week from surrounding areas.


Our area of Nosara is a popular surf destination because of the varied surf conditions, warm Pacific waters and laid-back atmosphere. Several surf schools in the area bring folks of all ages to Nosara for a try at this fast growing exciting sport. Coconut Harry’s, Innocent Surf School, Safari Surf School, and Surfo’s are all available for lessons and equipment rental.


The Nosara Yoga Institute is a big attraction for people around the world, that come for the teacher training course or advanced teacher workshops. Daily classes in yoga are offered by the institute to the general public. There is a growing healing and spiritual presence in the Nosara area with the renowned Omega Institute just opening as of January 2010. On a 2000 acre propery, at the south end of Guiones beach, Omega has built an impressive environmentally conscious facility. There are many spa services and massage practitioners available around Nosara that help make your stay relaxing and therapeutic.
